WHAT IS A CAVAPOO?

Cavapoos are a mixture of a pure-bred cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a pure-bred Poodle. Cavapoos are the ultimate teddy bear dogs. Their smaller size and button noses sets them apart from other doodle breeds. Their sweet demeanor makes them the perfect lap dog and cuddle partner. The Cavapoo mixes the best of the beautifully elegant Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the intelligent, hypoallergenic Poodle. The Cavapoo is an irresistible choice to complete your family.

GENERATIONS

F1 (Most Common): Bernese Mountain Dog + Poodle = 50% Bernese Mountain Dog & 50% Poodle

F1b : F1 Bernedoodle + Poodle = 25% Bernese Mountain Dog & 75% Poodle

F1 Generation (Most Common): The F1 generation is most desirable due to their stunning and well-balanced tri-color markings. Minimal shedding; lower odds of genetic issues being passed down.

F1b Generation: This generation is smaller and slightly more hypoallergenic, but are less commonly bred due to the unpredictability of the coat markings.

SHEDDING

Bernedoodles with a curly coat (more of the poodle side) are known to be hypoallergenic, meaning that they are “relatively unlikely to trigger an allergic reaction” in an individual. There is no such thing as a zero-shedding or a completely hypoallergenic dog. However, Bernedoodles are very low shedding, which means they shed very infrequently; this allows for the dander (dead skin particles) to remain inside the hair instead of released into the air. This feature makes Bernedoodles a great option for individuals and families with allergies.

COAT

Bernedoodles can come in a variety of coat types. Their coats fall into 3 categories: Curly, Wavy, and Straight.

Curly: This coat type is most common for a F1b Bernedoodle. The curls can be looser or tighter depending on genetics. A Bernedoodle with a curly coat will need brushing often to prevent knots. This coat is most popular amongst individuals with allergies since the curly coat has the least and lowest shedding potential.

Wavy: This coat type is most common for a F1 Bernedoodle. Bernedoodles with a wavy coat can be low shedding. Make sure to check with your Bernedoodle Breeder to determine the parental genetics and thus, determine the likelihood of shedding.

Straight: Straight are more common for a F1 Bernedoodle. These coats are more likely to shed, but require less grooming, more closely resembling the coat of the Bernese Mountain Dog.

PERSONALITY

Bernedoodles are the perfect combination of a loving, loyal, affectionate companion and an adventurous, playful pup. They are eager to please and genuinely want to be around you. This creates an ideal family dog for those with children or an active lifestyle.

ENERGY LEVEL

Bernedoodles have an ‘moderate’ energy level. Energy levels can vary depending on the Bernedoodle, but generally, bernedoodles need daily exercise (at least 20-30 minutes daily) and mental stimulation so they don’t get bored as they are a very intelligent breed.

TRAINABILITY

Bernedoodles are easy to train because of their intelligence paired with their want to please. Both the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle possess this quality. The Bernedoodle will respond positively and quickly to intentional training, no matter if you are a new dog owner or an experienced one!
